The Whitney (gr. I) at Saratoga marked the first meeting of number one-ranked Behrens and Horse-of-the-Year hopeful, Victory Gallop. Behrens had won four graded stakes in a row, but had not faced competition the likes of Victory Gallop. This showdown would seemingly make the Horse of the Year picture much more clear. The race was an exciting one, with Victory Gallop winning by the narrowest of margins. The Horse of the Year will most likely be determined later this year as we count down to the Breeders' Cup.
