Spectacular Bid and Cigar share a rare accomplishment in history beyond being Horses of the Year. Cigar (1995) and The Bid both completed their championship season undefeated for that year, while taking on anyone that would dare to challenge them. In 1980, Spectacular Bid proved that his 1979 Triple Crown loss was simply bad luck and was rewarded with Horse of the Year honors.
