Alysheba

Alysheba was the epitome of class and courage in the years of 1987 and 1988. He didn't win 16 races in a row (like the great Cigar), but he had a huge group of fans all the same. His win in the '87 Derby will always be remembered as his greatest race.

With his come-from-behind style and his amazing final kick, Alysheba provided the racing public with thrilling wins and heart-pounding losses. He consistently gave 100% every time the gates opened. Providing the ultimate compliment to his sire, Alydar, who was unlucky enough to be born the same year as Affirmed; Alysheba captured the Derby and the Preakness in 1987.

Alysheba stands at Lane's End farm in Kentucky.
